Funeral Procession to Close East Elk Grove Roads on Thursday June 27, 2019

Several Transit Routes will be Cancelled, or Detoured, due to Funeral Procession

The City of Elk Grove will implement several traffic controls/detours/road closures along Elk Grove Boulevard, Waterman Road, Sheldon Road, and East Stockton Boulevard on Thursday, June 27th to facilitate funeral processions honoring Sacramento Police Officer Tara O’Sullivan. The afternoon procession is expected to consist of over 500 law enforcement vehicles, and possibly be up to several miles in length. The procession is scheduled to exit Highway 99 at Elk Grove Boulevard and travel eastbound on Elk Grove Boulevard back to Herberger Funeral Home at approximately 1:30 pm. The procession will then proceed from Herberger Funeral Home eastbound on Elk Grove Boulevard to northbound Waterman Road, then to westbound Sheldon Road, then to southbound E. Stockton Blvd. to terminate at the East Lawn Cemetery just south of Creekside Baptist Church.

PLEASE EXPECT MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS & DETOURS. A traffic plan has been created and road closures and detours will be in effect from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. or until the procession has reached its destinations.

Access to the Park & Ride Lot on E. Stockton Boulevard, immediately south of Sheldon Road, will be significantly impacted in the afternoon/evening between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Access points will be temporarily closed, and no ingress or egress will be allowed during this time. Users of the Park & Ride Lot are encouraged not to utilize that location at all on June 27th.

Because of the anticipated traffic delays and detours, the following changes will occur to the City’s e-tran fixed-route services.

 All-day E-tran Route Closures:

E-tran commuter routes 13, 15, and 16 will not be in service all day. Riders for these commuter routes are encouraged to utilize an alternative e-tran commuter route on the western side of Highway 99, near Interstate 5, on June 27th. A new Park & Ride Lot located at the City’s Civic Center (located on Big Horn Boulevard at Civic Center Drive) is serviced by the e-tran commuter routes 10 and 12

Detoured Routes:

E-tran commuter routes 10 and 19 will be detoured in the AM/PM schedules to avoid the afternoon/evening traffic detours, and some areas in the eastern portion of Elk Grove will not be serviced. Service on these routes may be delayed due to regional traffic impacts from the funeral procession.

Partial Route Closures:

E-tran local routes 113, 115, and 116 will not be serviced between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Service on these routes will resume after 5:00 p.m. but may be delayed due to regional traffic impacts from the funeral procession.

Full Serviced E-tran Routes:

E-tran commuter routes 11, 12, 14, 17, and 18, and e-tran local routes 110, 111, 112, and 114, will operate according to schedule; however, service may be delayed due to regional traffic impacts from the funeral procession

The City will have standby buses available to assist with serving all routes that will remain open on June 27th. However, please note that all services may be delayed or impacted by the anticipated regional traffic associated with the funeral procession. All regularly scheduled local and commuter e-tran services will resume as scheduled on Friday, June 28th.

For any questions or concerns regarding the e-tran service, please call 916-683-8726. For any questions or concerns before the funeral procession event regarding road closures, please contact the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Division at (916) 627-3714
